Cycle lights brighter than legal maximum

LED bicycle lights have been found to be brighter than car headlights

Photometric testing of 10 of the most popular LED bicycle lights found that in some cases the brightness was greater than a dipped car headlight by a factor of 13 and exceeded the legal maximum, even when set at the lowest setting.

The Government has said it will review legislation for bicycle lights as the law has not kept pace with changes in technology. The current DfT limit for lighting states it must not exceed 70 candela.
