West Midlands speed cameras turned off

All 305 fixed speed cameras have been switched off by the West Midlands Police in a cost-cutting exercise

The final 73 of the 305 fixed cameras were switched off on Monday and are to be replaced by mobile speed camera vans which will patrol the worst accident blackspots. The long-term future of the cameras is to be reviewed with an eye on upgrading the cameras to digital. The housings will remain in place as a deterrent. The cost savings decision is expected to save £1million per year.
