New speed limit guidance for councils

The DfT has released new guidance for local councils to set more appropriate speed limits on local roads

The objectives of the guidance are to provide consistent advice, to improve clarity and therefore greater consistency of when setting speed limits and more appropriate local speed limits that better reflect the road users and bring a balance between safety, accessibility and environmental objectives.

There is a new online speed limit kit that includes a program, available for councils and members of the public, to calculate the potential costs and benefits of implementing new speed limits.
