Speed limit exemptions consultation
The Government is currently running a consultation for allowing an extended range of emergency services to be exempt from speed limits
Currently, Police, Fire, Ambulance and SOCA are exempt from speed limits and the consultation is looking to add further emergency services to the list, these include:
- Ministry of Defence bomb disposal units
- fire (other than for fire and rescue authorities which are covered)
- conveyance of human tissue for transplant
- blood transfusion
- mountain rescue
- mine rescue
- radiation emergencies
- coastguard and lifeboat launching
- lastly, the HM Revenue and Customs for their covert surveillance operations
