Uninsured cars seized tops 1 million

The MIB (Motor Insurers Bureau) which holds insurance records for over 34 million vehicles has seized their 1 millionth car.

The MIB database is regularly used by the Police and DVLA to enforce the law on driving without insurance and SORN. In 2005 Police were given new powers to stop cars that were being driven uninsured through using ANPR technology and on average an amazing 500 vehicles per day have been seized. This still leaves an estimated 1.2 million uninsured vehicles still on Britain’s roads according to the London Evening Standard.
