The Association of British Insurers, which represents 90% of the UK motor insurance industry, assures motorists there won’t be an increase in premiums for those fitting winter tyres
Provided the tyres are fitted and meet the manufacturer’s requirements there shouldn’t be any additional rise in premiums for those motorists who want to increase their vehicles road handling and safety during adverse winter conditions. The ABI commitment doesn’t cover the fitting of new wheels as well as new winter tyres so if you are buying a winter tyre package that comes with wheels it would be advisable to check with your car insurance first.
