Leaded petrol to become unavailable globally

The global phase-out of leaded petrol could be complete by 2013

Only six countries still use small amounts of leaded petrol and these, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, North Korea, Burma and Yemen, are expected to become completely dependent on unleaded in two year’s time. The phase out of leaded petrol has been spearheaded by the United Nations Environmental Programme. The US stopped using leaded petrol in 1986. There has been a 90% reduction lead levels in blood, contributing to 1.2 million less premature deaths.
