Insurers to face investigations

Following on from Jack Straw’s comments on the referral of customers details to claims management companies, the OFT and ICO get involved

The Office of Fair Trading will examine the suggestion that motor insurance companies are driving up the cost of insurance premiums by selling details of their customers to claims management companies.

The information Commissioner’s Office is also investigating the claims of a possible breach of data protection laws after two large insurance companies admitted to Mr Straw the insurance ‘racket’ which was going on.
