A Government review on road safety suggests that fixed penalty fines should increase
The fines, currently £60, may increase to between £80 and £100 for certain offences such as speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and mobile phone use whilst driving. The exact amount will depend on a detailed assessment of what effect the increases would have on payment rates. It is thought that the current fine level for motoring offences has not increased in relation to other areas such as disorder, thus trivialising road traffic offences.
