The condition of the road network in England has dropped, latest statistics reveal
The statistical bulletin from the Department for Transport shows that the Highways Condition Index for 90/10 (HCI – Lower the number the worse the condition of the road is) has dropped 2 points since 06/07, giving rise to a 2% road surface deterioration in the network. Some local authorities measure skidding resistance of roads to see if safety standards are maintained, 25% of the A road network need further investigation whilst nearly 50% of London’s roads are classified as needing further inspection of skidding resistance.
