European research makes recommendations to change crash barrier design to make them motorcycle friendly
Existing crash barrier design works extremely well for cars, slowing down a vehicle and preventing it from hitting other vehicles or hazards. Existing barrier design however doesn’t work particularly well for motorcyclists and is a factor in 16% of motorcyclist fatalities.
The research provides recommendations for modifying pre-existing barrier installations and guidelines for future barrier design.
