Vehicle checking firm HPI warns about buying motorbikes with outstanding finance
10% of motorbikes that were checked in 2011 had outstanding finance on them, leaving buyers at risk of losing their purchase and be liable for the debt on the vehicle.
Statistics from HPI also show that 7% of motorbikes checked have been written-off by an insurer and another 7% have had a number plate change, which is sometimes a tactic used by criminals to disguise a stolen bike or insurance write-off.
