Roadside cameras could detect 5 offences
EU funded project, ASSET (advanced safety and driver support for essential road transport) claims to be able to detect up to five separate offences simultaneously
The device has multiple cameras to detect offences such as speeding, tailgating as well as seatbelt offences. It also has ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) systems on board to detect No insurance or MOT offences. The system is currently being trialled in Finland to ensure it meets Police objectives. It could be in use by 2013.
