The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) have estimated that a 1/4 million drivers aged between 17 and 20 drive with no insurance
The MIB pay out compensation to those injured in road traffic accidents with uninsured drivers. Their experience highlights the problem of young uninsured drivers. They estimate that one in ten young drivers didn’t understand that having insurance was a legal requirement. The biggest barrier though was the high cost of car insurance on the young, making them less likely to take it out. 3 people are killed every week due to uninsured drivers.
