Fighter jet inspired heads up for motorcyclists

A team of Russian engineers have come up with a prototype augmented reality GPS system for motorcycle helmets

The system, called LiveMap, projects translucent images directly onto the middle of the riders point-of-view to display route information and point of interest searches.

LiveMap also includes a light sensor to adjust the brightness of the overlay relative to the environment so that is doesn’t interfere with the riders view of the road ahead. A gyro and compass allow the system to change the orientation of the image as the riders head turns.

Slightly heavier than a normal helmet and costing around $2,000 initially, the design will meet any motorcycle helmet certifications.
