Government proposals could see certain careless driving offences being handled as a fixed penalty offence rather than be taken to court
The changes will make the process more efficient and less time consuming for the Police to enforce. Offences such as tail-gating or undertaking would be classified as a fixed penalty careless driving offence under the new scheme. more serious careless driving offences will still go to court. The fine is expected to be in the region of £80 to £100.
The measures are part of a larger review by the Department for Transport and the road safety strategic framework.
