Explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes narrowly escaped a driving ban after a court heard he was ‘no ordinary man’
Fiennes fell asleep at the wheel of his X-type Jag and ploughed into an oncoming car, leaving the driver of the other car with severe injuries and unable to walk without assistance. The court decided not to disqualify him on the basis that there were no factors of excessive alcohol, high speeds or defects with the vehicle. The court also heard that Fiennes could not be treated like an ordinary man or be judged by the standards of a normal driver. The CPS apologised to the driver of the other car for the comments.
