The Ferrari driver was caught doing 83mph in a 50mph limit in Switzerland.
The fine is based on the man’s wealth (£16 million) and previous driving record for which he had a history of exceeding the speed limit. The man initially refused to appear in court, on the basis that he was a diplomat from the republic of Guinea-Bissau which gave him immunity and that his diplomatic number plates had fallen off. The court refused the excuse and went ahead with the fine, half of which is paid up-front whilst the balance is tied to good behaviour throughout a 2 year suspended sentence, payable daily.
