Research by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has found that using a mobile phone whilst driving has increased to 2.8%
The research took in 12,000 cars and taxis and 2,500 vans in London. Women drivers aged between 17 and 29 were the most likely group to use a mobile phone whilst driving. Hands free mobile use has increased from 1.2% in 2006 to 2.8% in 2009. TRL state that reaction times are slower and drivers are less aware of their surroundings. Strangely there are more drivers using a mobile phone whilst driving after the £60 fine and 3 penalty points were brought in than before the changes to the law.
