Calls are being made to countries in the EU to have a commonality between fines for HGV offences
The Road Haulage Association says that drivers are confused as to where they stand in terms of fines if caught committing a trucking offence. For example, invalid vehicle registration certificates currently carry a fine of up to £3189 in the UK, compared to £40 in Germany, £660 in France and as much as £8800 in Belgium. Drivers’ hours records offences in Belgium carry a top fine of £8800 and a/or 6 months in prison. In Germany the fine is £187 and a fine for the carrier of £1386
