Judge wasted money contesting red light offence

A judge has been handed a £5,000 fine for wasting court time and resources over a red light signal offence

Kuldip Singh QC was caught speeding through a red light in London in his Mercedes-Benz and then spent a year trying to contest the allegation in court, his defence comprised of 3 lever arch folders spanning four court hearings.

Singh faced 3 points and £60 fine after finally pleading guilty to the offence but, due to wasting court time and resources, was also ordered to pay the costs of the proceedings totalling £4,769.
