Fixed Penalty Notices unpopular
No surprises, research by IAM found that only 15% think that fixed penalty notices are effective
From a survey of 1900 people, only 15% think that fixed penalty notices are an effective deterrent for careless driving offences. An overwhelming 90% thought that if caught committing a road traffic offence that the driver should be given the option between accepting points or attending a driver awareness course. The survey indicates that rather than constantly add points to licences for bad driving habits a better approach would be to allow drivers the opportunity to improve their driving skills.
