Welsh traffic police numbers drop

The number of traffic police in Wales has dropped by nearly a third in the last 3 years

There were 508 traffic officers in 2007-08, this dropped to 356 in 2009-10. This comes at a time when the DfT is calling for the Police to stop and fine drivers for offences such as tail-gating and undertaking under new proposals for careless driving offences. Without an increase in road traffic Police levels these proposals could become more or less useless.
