Seatbelt and Number Plate Law Changes

Fines for foreign drivers committing seatbelt or number plate offences could increase

The draft legislation will increase fines for both seatbelt offences and number plate offences to £60 each, bringing them in-line with the fine for UK Residents. Number plate offences include

  • driving or keeping a vehicle without the required registration mark; and,
  • driving or keeping a vehicle with an obscured registration mark.

The increase in fines will hopefully deter offenders and increase crime detection rates.
