Google develops robotic cars
Internet search giant Google has been secretly developing cars that drive themselves
The research has logged over 140,000 miles worth of driver-less motoring using technology such as video, radar and laser to allow the vehicles to ‘map’ out the road terrain ahead. The test vehicles all had a safety driver to take over as well as a software engineer to monitor the computer whilst the test were being carried out in San Francisco. Google says this advance in robotics research will eventually reduce the number of people killed on the roads and improve the environment as well.
