Bald tyre prosecutions on the rise

Figures released by the Ministry of justice show that prosecutions for defective tyres have increased by 14%

The figures show that in 2008 just over 4,300 defendants were found guilty of driving with defective tyres. This figure is a seven year high up from a previous low of 3,595 in 2006. It is a current legal requirement that the tread depth around the complete circumference of the tyre be a minimum of 1.6mm.
