Speed awareness course instead of points
Speed awareness courses are a national scheme designed to allow motorists to attend a workshop
The scheme gives drivers caught speeding the option to go on a workshop rather than accept a fine and points. Not all Police forces run the scheme as it is relatively new. To be eligible for the course the speed at which you were caught must be within a certain margin where each Police force sets its own trigger limits. The course usually costs between £60 and £100, pretty much the same as the fine, although drivers benefit by not having points applied to their licence, thus not affecting car insurance. Drivers can only attend one course every 3 years.
